Home Product Plastic Pipe Making Machine PVC Pipe Belling Machine
A PVC pipe belling machine, also known as a PVC pipe socketing machine, is an automatic downstream machine used to form socket ends on PVC and PVC-U pipes. By heating, expanding, forming, and cooling the pipe end, the machine produces accurate sockets for solvent-cement or rubber-ring connections.
Belling types:
EANS PVC pipe belling machines are designed for PVC water supply pipes, drainage pipes, sewer pipes, and electrical conduit pipes. Depending on the pipe specification and connection method, the machine can produce straight sockets or R-type sockets with rubber-ring sealing grooves.
The machine can be installed as part of a complete PVC pipe extrusion line or operated as a standalone pipe socketing machine. Different models and forming molds are available for pipe diameters from 50 to 630 mm.
| Model | SGK110 | SGK200 | SGK250 | SGK315 | SGK630 |
| Pipe diameter(mm) | 50-110 | 63-200 | 63-250 | 160-315 | 315-630 |
| Heater(pcs) | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 | 1 |
| Total power(kw) | 12 | 15 | 15 | 20 | 38 |
| Compressor air MPa | 0.45-0.6 | 0.45-0.6 | 0.45-0.6 | 0.5-0.6 | 0.5-0.6 |
EANS PVC pipe belling machines are widely used for PVC-U pipes manufactured for water supply, drainage, sewerage, electrical conduit, and other piping applications. The machine forms the pipe socket after extrusion and cutting, allowing individual pipes to be connected during installation.

Pipe Feeding: The PVC pipe belling machine automatically receives cut pipes from the extrusion line or an offline conveyor and transfers them to the belling station.
Pipe Positioning: A pneumatic or hydraulic positioning system accurately aligns and holds the pipe before the heating process to ensure consistent socket dimensions.
Pipe Heating: The pipe end is uniformly heated inside the heating chamber until the PVC reaches the required forming temperature. Depending on the pipe diameter and wall thickness, infrared or contact heating can be used. Dual heating stations are available for large-diameter or thick-wall pipes.
Socket Forming: After heating, the softened pipe end is transferred to the forming station. A forming mold expands and shapes the pipe end into the required socket profile. By changing the mold, the machine can produce U-type sockets for solvent-welded connections or R-type sockets for rubber-ring sealing.
Cooling and Shaping: The formed socket is cooled using water or air while the mold maintains the required pressure and shape. Controlled cooling minimizes shrinkage and helps maintain accurate socket dimensions and consistent pipe quality.
Demolding and Discharge: Once the socket has cooled and stabilized, the forming mold retracts automatically. The finished pipe is then discharged to the collection rack, completing the automatic PVC pipe belling and socketing process.

PVC pipe belling machines can be configured with different forming molds according to the required pipe connection method. The two common socket configurations are straight socket (solvent-weld type) and R-type socket (rubber-ring sealing type).
| Feature | Straight Socket | R-Type Socket |
|---|---|---|
| Connection Method | Solvent cement bonding | Rubber ring sealing |
| Typical Application | PVC drainage pipes | PVC water supply and drainage pipes |
| Forming Method | Direct-push forming mandrel | Expandable-block mold with external forming mold |
| Socket Structure | Smooth socket | Socket with sealing-ring groove |
| Mold Complexity | Relatively simple | More complex |
| Equipment Cost | Lower | Higher |
| Main Quality Requirement | Socket dimensions and roundness | Socket dimensions, groove position and groove depth |
| Suitable Pipe Systems | Solvent-welded systems | Gasketed joint systems |
Straight Socket
The straight socket is formed by directly expanding the softened pipe end with a forming mandrel. Its relatively simple mold structure makes it suitable for PVC drainage pipes using solvent cement bonding, with lower tooling complexity and equipment cost.
R-Type Socket
The R-type socket uses an expandable-block forming mold to create a dedicated groove for the rubber sealing ring. It is commonly used for PVC water supply and drainage pipes requiring flexible gasketed connections.
For R-type socket production, the groove diameter, depth, width, and position must match the specified sealing ring. Accurate mold design and stable forming pressure are therefore critical to prevent leakage and ensure reliable joint performance.
Which Socket Type Should You Choose?
If both socket types are required, configure the machine with interchangeable forming molds for different pipe specifications.
Common PVC Pipe Belling Defects and Solutions
Socket quality in a PVC pipe belling machine depends mainly on heating uniformity, forming mold accuracy, pipe alignment, forming pressure, and cooling control. The table below summarizes common belling defects, their causes, and corresponding solutions.
| Common Defect | Main Causes | Recommended Solutions |
| Socket Cracking | Insufficient heating, uneven wall thickness, excessive forming stress | Optimize heating temperature and time; check pipe wall thickness and mold entry design |
| Socket Shrinkage | Insufficient cooling or pressure holding, excessive mold temperature | Extend cooling and pressure-holding time; optimize mold temperature |
| Oval or Eccentric Socket | Misalignment, incorrect roller height, insufficient clamping, uneven heating | Adjust pipe–mold alignment, roller height, clamping force, and heating uniformity |
| Yellowing or Scorching | Excessive temperature or heating time, localized hot spots | Optimize zoned temperature control and heating duration |
| Uneven R-Type Sealing Groove | Mold wear, unstable forming pressure, pipe slippage | Inspect the forming mold, stabilize hydraulic pressure, and improve pipe clamping |
